Meet Our Faculty

John Blunnie
John Blunnie holds a Bachelor's in Chemistry from Rhode Island College and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi. He started teaching in the state of Mississippi and has been teaching Chemistry and Physics for over 7 years now. He is passionate about hands on learning of physical sciences. He currently lives in Warwick with his wife Nini and his newborn son Luke.
Johanna Bray
Johanna Bray, or Jo for short, holds a BS in Fashion Merchandising and an MA in Secondary Education, both from the University of Rhode Island. She is currently teaching algebra one and two. Her goal as a math teacher is to make the subject as approachable as possible, and help all mathphobics overcome their fear. Jo invites all students to call her by her first name in accordance with the Quaker tradition of abstaining from the use of titles: all people are equal in her classroom. She lives with her boyfriend, dog McQueen, named for fashion designer Alexander McQueen, and cat Spencer, named for Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds. She is an avid supporter of the LGBTQ community.
Jessica Briggs
Jessica Briggs has a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Rhode Island and a master's degree in secondary English education from Rhode Island College. She currently teaches ninth and tenth grade English at Charette. Her favorite projects to teach (so far!) are "Power of Persuasion," "Poetry and the People," and the "Passion Project," all of which champion student voice and power in the classroom and beyond. In her time outside the classroom, she enjoys reading, weightlifting, hiking nature trails with her dog Remi, and writing poems.
Michael Brown
Mr. Brown is in his second year at Charette High School. He holds Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Secondary Education and Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island. He has taught everything from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus. He holds a firm belief that everyone has the ability to learn and use math and enjoys bringing that ability out in people. He lives in Cumberland with his wife Jessie and son Henry.
Julie Latessa
Julie Latessa has been in education for many years and has worked with students of all ages. She holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees and one Master of Education degree. Ms. Latessa can be found assisting Ms. Briggs in English classes and Ms. Joharlen in Wellness classes. Also, she oversees a tenth grade SDL class. Besides working with students, she works with the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub - a nonprofit organization with a mission to take veterans to see their memorials in Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veterans. When she is not working with students or veterans, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and working out. She lives by these words. “I believe that when you give, you never go without and get more in return.”
Samantha Miller
Urban Planning
Samantha Miller attended the University of Rhode Island and received a degree in History and a minor in Education. She currently works with students from all grade levels at Charette Charter High School. She teaches Urban Planning and Historic Preservation, which is a program that focuses on community development, appreciation and preservation of historic urban infrastructure, as well as communication and collaboration with community leaders throughout the City of Providence and beyond. She also teaches 11th and 12th grade English. Her favorite projects are “The American Dream”, “Creative Nonfiction” and “The Poetry Professor.” Outside of the classroom, she also enjoys photography, traveling and reading poetry!
Eric O'Neill
Taylor O'Neill
Taylor O’Neill has a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in English from Rhode Island College. She also holds a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies, as well. Born and raised in North Providence, Taylor has always found a passion for teaching, from mentoring in her high school Writing Center to working with students in the Special Olympics. Mix all of that in with a passion for literature and pop culture and becoming an English teacher was the logical next step. In her free time, she loves to read, play video games, and watch the latest Netflix phenomenon. This is her first year teaching and she couldn’t be more excited to begin her adventure at Charette Charter High School and be a part of the Charette family!
Magnolia Perez
Magnolia Is a bilingual actress/Teaching artist and she is originally from the Dominican Republic,Migrated to Providence RI at the age of 7, She attended school in Providence RI and was a part of the Arts Magnetic traveled to Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the American Theatre organization. She received the Helen Forman Talent theatre scholarship to attend Rhode Island College. She currently holds a bachelors in Arts. After graduating Magnolia became a local teaching artist in the city of providence working with inner city youth in the Public schools in collaboration with the Children and Youth Cabinet in trauma based programs. Magnolia strongly believes that “The arts can change lifes, and give confidence to young minds”.She also believes in “telling stories through poetry and storytelling that represent the brown and black community, in an effort to shed light on issues of social justice and systematic change”she is so excited to not only teach English and Improv as an arts outlet but be a mentor to students who now more than ever need the support and encouragement to stay focused and engaged in learning.
Rosa Ramirez
Multi-language Learner Support
Born in the Dominican Republic, Rosa Ramirez earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Roger Williams University. Due to her own experiences as an Multilingual Learner student in Providence Public Schools, she is very passionate about education, as a tool to empower youth to positively transform their lives. A few of her ESL experiences include Teacher of English as a Foreign Language in Peace Corps, China and Family Literacy Instructor to diverse adult learners at Dorcas International. At Charette High School she is very passionate about working with her MLL students to achieve self sufficiency. She is a mother and a wife, enjoys to travel around the world, spend time with family, watch Marvel movies and dance.
Allie Roderick
Allie Roderick teaches U.S. History and Government to our Juniors and Seniors here at Charette! Ms. Roderick graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in History and Secondary Education. She is passionate about political participation and social justice, and hope to encourage students to create the world they'd like to live in. She grew up in Providence, but has recently moved to Woonsocket with her fiancé, Eric, and her dog, Red. She enjoys drawing, writing, and cooking in her free time!
Caroline Roth
Caroline Roth holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Studies and a Master of Arts in Education and Teacher Certification in General and Biological Sciences 7-12 from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston Campus where she was awarded Sciences Student Teacher of the Year 2018. She comes to us with experience as a substitute classroom teacher in several districts, a special education paraprofessional, tutor, and classroom assistant. Ms. Roth has taught full time in Providence for the past three years and is honored to be one of the founding teachers at Charette Charter School. Since her time at Charette, Ms. Roth has been recognized as the 2020 District Teacher of the Year. Caroline's passion is to integrate the community and the ecosystems of the state into each of her lessons and she is passionate about helping to advance Project Based Learning in her own career. In her free time, she enjoys jigsaw puzzles, reading, drawing, and playing in the yard with the pups. She is looking forward to being part of a school that embraces an active, meaningful, and engaging learning environment.
Carolyn Taylor
Special Education Director/MLL Coordinator
Carolyn Taylor holds her master's degree in Multicultural Urban Special Education Administration and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educating Students with Autism. She comes to us with experience as a Special Educator, MLL Administrator and a Special Education Director. She also has extensive experience in writing Federal grants, Title IA Administration and overseeing IDEA requirements. She has two grown daughters who are both artists. She enjoys traveling to visit with them and reading the classics.
Ebony Akinrimisi
Science ILA/Classroom Support
Ms A is in her second year here at Charette Charter High school in her role as a teacher assistant. She holds a B.A. degree in Elementary education and is working on completing a Masters degree in community public health. Ebony has 15+ years experience working with youth, she’s served as director of after school programs, Pre-k teacher and long term substitute throughout several RI school districts. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her two daughters , reading and traveling abroad.
Kristina Anthony

Kristina Anthony received her Bachelor’s degree at Rhode Island College in Psychology. She is applying to Graduate school to receive her Masters in School Counseling. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Ms. Anthony has experience in education from working in all grades/ages in several cities and towns throughout the state. She aims to give her students the knowledge they need in order to be successful outside of the classroom and prepared for life after high school. Her background in education and psychology gives her the knowledge to not only help the students in their academics, but mentally and emotionally as well.

Joe Hanson received degrees in German and Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan and began a successful seventeen-year career in college textbook and professional publishing that included assignments in all aspects of the business; he also holds an MBA from Adelphi University. He recently joined Charette and has been working tirelessly to help students reach their full potential! When he is not in the classroom he enjoys gardening, playing video games, cooking delicious meals, and doing work for his MAT at Johnson & Wales.

Proud father and husband, teacher by passion, catholic by conviction, sensitive to problems. Live a constant process of learning, innovation and research. Jose holds a business administration, Master's degree in Finance, and Master's degree in Management Science and Research from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic, where he worked for 20 years as a teacher. Postgraduate degree in teaching qualification, virtual education and instructional design from the Open University for Adults. He graduated from the Teacher Assistant Certification Program by the RI Department of Education (RIDE) at ILSR and English as Second Language at Rhode Island College. He is dedicated to helping others and providing a fun, innovative, and informative learning environment for students in each course, skilled in technology development and implementation of a classroom curriculum. Jose recently joined Charette as a teacher's assistant in math.
