Director Ejecutivo Interino
La trayectoria de la Dra. Lyons en el ámbito educativo abarca más de una década, desde sus inicios como profesora de secundaria hasta su labor al frente del currículo y la instrucción a nivel estatal, pasando por la formulación de políticas educativas y el apoyo a las escuelas en la consolidación de prácticas pedagógicas sólidas. Su pasión siempre ha sido trabajar con escuelas urbanas, centrándose en garantizar que cada estudiante tenga acceso a experiencias de aprendizaje de alta calidad que los preparen para el éxito escolar y profesional. Se sintió atraída por Charette debido a su firme convicción en el potencial de cada estudiante y a su comunidad unida y sólida. Esta es una misión que le toca muy de cerca. Aquí, creamos comunidad mediante el desarrollo de relaciones, la celebración de la diversidad y el apoyo mutuo. Nos honramos reconociendo nuestras fortalezas, asumiendo la responsabilidad de nuestro crecimiento y tratándonos con respeto. Director de Educación
La Sra. Martin obtuvo su licenciatura en Educación Secundaria en la Universidad de Rhode Island y su maestría en Administración de Educación Secundaria en Providence College. Como educadora de vocación, cuenta con experiencia como profesora de matemáticas de secundaria, directora de escuela intermedia, directora de escuela secundaria, administradora de distrito y profesora adjunta, preparando a estudiantes universitarios para la docencia. Aquí en Charette, trabaja en estrecha colaboración con el Dr. Vespia y todo el equipo, construyendo una sólida comunidad escolar centrada en el desarrollo académico y personal de nuestros estudiantes. Fuera del ámbito escolar, la Sra. Martin vive con su esposo y su perra Waverly, una mestiza de labrador rescatada de trece años. Tiene muchos intereses, pero lo que más disfruta es pasar tiempo con su familia y amigos.

Samantha Miller
Dean of Student Success
Samantha Miller is the Dean at Charette Charter High School, where she inspires and supports students across all grade levels. A University of Rhode Island graduate with a degree in History and a minor in Education, Samantha previously taught Urban Planning and Historic Preservation, helping students explore community development, historic preservation, and collaboration with local leaders. She also taught 11th and 12th-grade English, leading engaging projects like The American Dream, Creative Nonfiction, and The Poetry Professor. Known for her passion, energy, and dedication to student growth, Samantha creates a positive, supportive environment where every student can thrive. Outside of school, she enjoys photography, traveling, and reading poetry.

Corey Brown
Student Success Coach
Athletics Coordinator
Corey Brown serves as the Student Success Coach and Athletics Coordinator at Charette High School, where he leads with a deep commitment to student growth, mentorship, and community. Raised in Providence’s Wiggin Village, Corey brings lived experience and a strong sense of purpose to his work, guiding students toward both academic and personal success. A former standout basketball player at Mount Pleasant High School, Corey earned numerous accolades for his performance on the court. In 2007, he founded the We Got Next Basketball League, creating opportunities for youth to develop discipline, teamwork, and confidence—no matter their background or ability. At Charette, Corey continues that mission by fostering a positive school culture rooted in accountability, respect, and empowerment. Whether supporting students through conflict, coordinating athletic programs, or mentoring emerging leaders, Corey’s work reflects his belief that every young person deserves the chance to “play next”—in school, in sports, and in life.

Danielle Mushaweh, Ed. D
Director of Special Education
Dr. Danielle Mushaweh is the Director of Special Education at Charette High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Communication with a minor in Education as Social Science from Rutgers University, a master’s in Urban Education Policy from Brown University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Johnson & Wales University. Dr. Mushaweh came to Providence in 2012 through Teach For America and taught in Providence Public Schools for ten years before earning her administrative license through the Center for Leadership and Educational Equity. She is passionate about education and lifelong learning and enjoys spending time with her husband, Kyle, and their two children, Asher and Lyla. Her love for Providence stems from the city’s resilience, diversity, and strong sense of community, which reflect her commitment to equity and excellence in education.

Todd Brennan
Special Educator
Todd Brennan is a dedicated educator who earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from UMass Boston, with a focus on Physical Education and a Master’s in Special Education. He is passionate about supporting students and helping them reach their full potential. Outside of school, Mr. Brennan enjoys playing golf, watching sports, and spending quality time with his five dogs. Family is very important to him, and he is overjoyed to welcome his new grandbaby, Maya, into the family. Mr. Brennan’s enthusiasm, kindness, and commitment make him a cherished member of the Charette community.

Finnlee Burge
9 and 10 - Science Teacher
Finnlee Burge teaches science with a passion for hands-on learning and discovery. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Rhode Island and has been working in education since his sophomore year of college, gaining experience with students from ages 4 to 25. Finnlee’s favorite field is molecular biology, with a particular interest in genetics and immunology. He loves having students design their own experiments to investigate unknown phenomena, bringing curiosity and creativity to the classroom. Outside of teaching, Finnlee is an avid juggler and enjoys playing video games, reading, and creating 3D art.

Leann Heath
9 and 10 - English Teacher
Leann Heath brings energy and creativity to Charette High School as the English teacher for 9th and 10th grades. A proud Emerson College graduate with a Master’s in Theatre Education, she inspires students to fall in love with reading and writing. When she’s not in the classroom, Leanne can be found hiking trails, getting lost in a good book, or knitting something cozy. Her favorite book is One Hundred Years of Solitude, and her absolute favorite pastime is spending time with her grandson, JR.

Eric O'Neill

Eric O’Neill brings energy and enthusiasm to Charette High School, where he inspires students with his love of history, political science, and the environment. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a degree in History and Political Science and the RITE program at RIC, Eric is passionate about helping students reach their goals while making learning engaging and fun. Outside of the classroom, he can be found sailing, diving into a good book, or enjoying a friendly video game challenge.

Jose Reynoso
9 and 10 Math Teacher
Jose Reynoso is a dedicated math teacher passionate about creating an engaging and supportive learning environment. He holds a Business Administration degree, a Master’s in Finance, and a Master’s in Management Science and Research from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic, where he taught for 20 years. He is currently pursuing another degree at Rhode Island College. Jose combines technology, curriculum development, and hands-on teaching to make math meaningful and enjoyable for every student. When he’s not at Charette, he loves spending time with his family and visiting his beloved, Dominican Republic.

Michael Brown
11 and 12 - Math Teacher
Michael Brown teaches 11th and 12th grade math at Charette and loves helping students see that math isn’t just numbers—it’s a skill everyone can master. With Bachelor of Arts degrees in Secondary Education and Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island, he brings both expertise and creativity to the classroom, making learning engaging and meaningful. Passionate about helping students build confidence and problem-solving skills, Mr. Brown creates a supportive environment where every student can succeed. When he’s not teaching, he enjoys life in Cumberland with his wife, Jessie, and their son, Henry.

Scott Hart teaches 11th and 12th-grade English at Charette High School, inspiring students to think critically, write creatively, and explore the power of language. He earned his degree in Philosophy and Creative Writing from Rhode Island College, blending deep thinking with storytelling. Outside the classroom, Scott enjoys playing guitar and writing. His favorite book is The Sirens of Titan, reflecting his love for imaginative and thought-provoking literature. Scott’s favorite lessons to teach focus on rhetoric, helping students analyze arguments, craft persuasive writing, and develop critical thinking skills. He is dedicated to helping students discover their own voices while fostering curiosity, creativity, and meaningful discussion in his classroom.

Allie Roderick teaches U.S. History and Government to our Juniors and Seniors and also helps coordinate Student Leadership at Charette. A proud Providence native, Allie earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in 2018 and has been inspiring students at Charette ever since. She became an educator to show students like her that everyone is capable of learning and growing. Outside the classroom, Allie enjoys reading, playing video games, and creating art. Her partner, dog, and friends keep her grounded and energized for all her work with students.

Jennifer Landry serves as the Urban Planning teacher at Charette, where she is dedicated to creating a learning environment in which students feel supported, challenged, and inspired. With a background in Youth Development from Rhode Island College, Jen brings a strong blend of academic knowledge and real-world experience to her classroom. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes student-centered learning, fostering curiosity, and encouraging critical thinking. Jen is well known for building meaningful relationships with students and families. She believes that every student has the potential to succeed and works each day to make learning engaging, inclusive, and memorable.

Art Teacher
Kurt Van Dexter is an inspiring art teacher for 9th and 10th grades. He studied at the Hussian College of Art and University of Rhode Island for his undergraduate studies, focusing on art and landscaping, and earned his graduate degree from RISD. Kurt is a passionate creator whose work has been featured in five art galleries. Outside the classroom, he enjoys hiking, gardening, and playing the button accordion, bringing his creativity and energy into everything he does. His love for art and nature inspires his students to explore their own creative paths.

Allison Mayo
Instructional Learning Assistant - MLL
Allison Mayo is Charette High School’s MLL Support Specialist, where she also leads an advisory group and supports students in Health class alongside Mr. Danny. She earned her degrees in Spanish and Psychology from the University of Rhode Island and is currently pursuing her Master’s in School Counseling at Providence College. Allison is passionate about helping students thrive academically and personally. Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, attending concerts, and exploring great food.

Phillip Messier
Instructional Learning Assistant - English
Phillip Messier earned his undergraduate degree in History from UMass Dartmouth and is currently pursuing his Master’s in Special Education at UConn. He works alongside Mr. Hart as a teaching partner for 11th and 12th-grade English. Phillip’s favorite lesson to teach is “What Does It Mean to Be an American?”, where students explore history, identity, and civic responsibility. Outside the classroom, he enjoys participating in American Revolution re-enactments and playing role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, bringing creativity and fun to his learning and teaching

Danny Monteiro
Instructional Learning Assistant - Science
Danny Monteiro brings energy and commitment to the Charette community. A current Providence City soccer player, he also studied at Rhode Island College, where his interest in health and education grew. Danny teaches Health and supports 9th and 10th grade Science as an Instructional Learning Assistant. He also works with the Boys & Girls Club, extending his passion for supporting youth beyond the school day. Since joining Charette in 2022, Danny’s favorite part has been the uplifting environment created by both students and staff — a setting where everyone feels connected and supported.


Angel Prado
Instructional Learning Assistant - Science
Angel Prado is a proud Charette alum, part of the first graduating class in 2021, and the first Charette graduate to earn a degree from Boston College, completing his Political Science degree in May 2025. Returning to Charette to give back, Angel supports students as an instructional learning assistant in multiple classes and provides one-on-one assistance whenever it’s needed. His dedication and experience as a former student make him a trusted guide and mentor for our current students.

Natali Rodriguez came to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2016, bringing with her a deep appreciation for language, culture, and community. As an MLL Instructional Learning Assistant at Charette, she is passionate about helping students navigate a new language — a journey she understands personally and holds close to her heart. Her favorite pastimes include exploring new restaurants and enjoying quality time with her family. Natali loves being part of the Charette community because it is a place where students are supported, encouraged, and set up for success. She is proud to contribute to an environment where every learner has the opportunity to thrive.

Francheska Soriano is a proud Dominican woman who graduated from the University of Rhode Island in May 2025 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Business. She is deeply passionate about her family, friends, and her Christian faith, all of which ground her and shape the way she moves through the world. She enjoys working with children, and finds a lot of meaning in supporting and encouraging them as they grow. With her people-first approach, she brings reliability, creativity, and genuine care to her workplace.


Noelia Tavera
Instructional Learning Assistant - Math
Noelia Tavera is a proud Dominican member of Charette High School’s Class of 2022. She was involved in the Talent Development program at the University of Rhode Island and is currently pursuing a degree in Psychology and Human Development, with an expected graduation in December 2025. Noelia is passionate about supporting the mental health and well-being of children and works alongside Mr. Reynoso in Math class to provide academic support to students. In her free time, she enjoys attending football games, watching movies, and exploring new foods.

Santa Espinoza brings over 20 years of school experience and 17 years in finance to Charette High School. Proudly Dominican and raised in Providence, she loves the city and the supportive, student-centered environment at Charette. Santa is your go-to person for enrollment, special projects, and making sure every student starts their day right with a customized wake-up call. When she’s not at school, she enjoys relaxing at her vacation homes in West Virginia and Upstate New York.

Sobeida Villanueva de Winsten

SobeidaVillanueva joined Charette High School in 2021 and has been a welcoming presence ever since. She immigrated from the Dominican Republic in 1992 and has proudly called Providence home for more than three decades. She holds an Associate’s Degree from CCRI and is a Certified CNA. At Charette, Sobeida enjoys working in a small, close-knit environment where she can see students grow and succeed each day. Outside of work, she loves shopping, home décor, and exploring historic places—interests that connect perfectly with Charette’s urban planning theme. Sobeida’s warm smile and kind energy make her a friendly and familiar face for everyone who walks through Charette’s doors.

Judith Russell, RN
School Nurse
Judith Russell holds a B.S.N from UMass Boston and has worked in social services as a home visiting nurse before becoming a School Nurse teacher . She joined the Charette community in 2022, having spent the last twelve years working with urban teens

Sue Grundy
Technology Support Specialist
Sue Grundy is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a minor in German Studies. She has worked in technology support since 2004, serving in both Higher Education and Adult Education settings before joining Charette in the summer of 2021. Sue holds a Google Apps for Education Administrator Certification and manages the school’s one-to-one Chromebook program, IT support, and overall technology infrastructure. In addition to her tech responsibilities, she also serves as Charette’s Website Content Manager and Athletics Coordinator, overseeing student-athlete eligibility. Outside of work, Sue enjoys traveling, photography, and a variety of sports.

Melissa Ucci has over 30 years of experience in accounting, management, and human resources, with a strong history of service in school communities since 2003. Known for her organization, creativity, and dedication, she enjoys supporting students and staff through her behind-the-scenes work that helps everything run smoothly. Melissa loves spending time with family and friends, hosting gatherings, cooking, and bringing her creativity to life through interior design.

Claribel Crews is the Career and College Planning Counselor for Charette High School. Claribel is a first-generation student who graduated from RIC with a Bachelors in K-12 Special Education and from Providence College with a Masters in Education, M.Ed. As an Afro-Latina woman, she became an educator because she believes representation matters, especially in the classroom! She is passionate about working with her students and their families to ensure success. As well as continuing to be an amazing wife, mom/stepmom to her four children and makes sure they have a positive relationship with their academics. During her free time, she is reading, crafting, and spending time with her family!

Joharlen Estevez is the Director of Student Success at Charette High School, where she leads with heart, purpose, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student. A first-generation college graduate, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Rhode Island College and her Master of Education in School Counseling from Providence College. At the core of Joharlen’s work is a deep commitment to equity, belonging, and student empowerment. She strives to create a school culture where students feel seen, valued, and supported to rise above obstacles and redefine what’s possible for themselves and their families. Known for her compassion and high expectations, Joharlen guides students to discover their voice, embrace their resilience, and lead with confidence. She often reminds her students that “Las flores más fuertes crecen en la tierra más dura”—the strongest flowers grow from the toughest soil.

Laura Harrell
Director of Teaching & Learning
Ms. Harrell earned her Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from Rhode Island College. She is a first-generation high school and college graduate. Ms. Harrell has been an educator for 20 years and has taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She specializes in literacy and teaching English to Multilingual learners. Ms. Harrell is certified in Orton-Gillingham and was named District Teacher of the Year in 2018. She believes that literacy is a civil right and that reading is the gateway to achieving your dreams.

Jill Holloway
Director of Data
Jill Holloway is the Director of Data at Charette High School. She oversees data management and reporting to RIDE, conducts transcript analysis, and coordinates ACN courses, school lunches, and other initiatives that support student success. A longtime leader in Providence education, Jill helped launch the Met School, Year Up Providence, the RI Adult Education Professional Development Center, and Charette. She is passionate about using data to inform decisions and create opportunities that empower students to thrive. Outside of work, Jill enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren and finds inspiration in collaborating with the Charette team to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives.
